South Beach State Park, Newport OR

Stay Date:  Oct 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 7

South Beach1One of Oregon’s largest parks with over 227 sites, South Beach is popular park close to the tourist town of Newport.  We’d never stay here in the summer, but in South Beach2October most of the sites were empty and it was quiet.  Paved roads and all back-in sites, mostly level and with 30A power and water.  Our site was on a corner which gave us a bit more room, and open enough that we could use South Beach3a portable satellite dish.  No WiFi, cable, or OTA TV.  Verizon cell/data worked well.  Only a 1/4 mile walk to the beach, and close to the town itself.  The hospitality center has free coffee and volunteers can provide local information and maps.  At the high end of price at $31/night plus one-time $8 reservation fee, the price will increase to $33/night on November 1.  South Beach State Park

Silver Spur RV Park, Silverton OR

Stay Date:  Oct 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Silverton1This was our second visit here; it’s a nicely laid out, attractive park that’s convenient to the pretty little town of Silverton and not that far off the Silverton2interstate.  Very friendly and welcoming staff, all pull-thru sites, with a grass strip and small trees.  Nice office/store, planned activities, good WiFi and cable.  Verizon cell/data were strong, there Silverton3were ample OTA TV channels, and clear view of TV Satellites.  Our only negative comment is that there are many full-time residents, most of whom have large diesel pickups and leave early in the morning for work.  They’re liberal with the use of Passport America, reducing the nightly fee from $46 to $23 – a real bargain.  Silver Spur RV Park

LePage COE Park, Rufus OR

Stay Date:  Oct 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

LePage1Some of the best pull-thru sites we've stayed in. The entry road winds it's way above the park area and looks a bit sporty, but was no problem for our 40' MH. The pull-thru sites are very LePage2long and result in your passenger side looking out over the river. Everything is paved, but there is some grass along the riverbank. Great views of the John Day river and the bridge where it LePage3intersects the Columbia. Some road and train noise from the bridge but nothing significant. No obstructions to satellite RV and our Verizon cell/data was satisfactory. The rate of $12.50/night with the senior pass is an exceptional bargain, but only if you reserve a pull thru site since the back-ins are rather short and under trees.  LePage COE Park

Coyote Run RV Park, Connell WA

Stay Date:  Oct 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

An excellent place to stop for the night; easy access to the highway, long, level pull-thru sites, and a friendly, helpful host. Our site was long enough to leave our tow vehicle attached, and hookups were conveniently placed. Very good park WiFi and cable, and no obstructions to TV satellites. Verizon cell/data signal was good. A bit of highway noise during the night but not obtrusive. We enjoyed our stay here and will stop again if in the area.  Reasonable at $33/night.  Coyote Run RV Park

Fairchild AFB Famcamp, Spokane WA

Stay Date:  Oct 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD –7

Fairchild1A convenient stop along I-90 and close to shopping and casinos. On entering through the commercial gate, expect to be told to open all bays, doors, hood, trunk, and wait in a separate area while your RV and vehicle are searched. No exceptions, so if this bothers you, go Fairchild2somewhere else. A friendly and helpful host greeted us, but the only thing attractive about the Famcamp itself is the price. Gravel interior and sites that are mostly level and just long enough for our motor home and tow, closely spaced and with a sewer hookup in Fairchild3the far rear of the site. WiFi was slow, but it was windy during our stay, and Verizon Cell/Data was good. Lots of OTA TV and no few obstructions to the TV satellites. Train noise can be very loud at night, something that seems to be worse than in past visits. Overall a good value at $20/night due to the location, but not a destination park.  Fairchild AFB Famcamp

Clearwater Crossing, Orofino ID

Stay Date:  Oct 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Clearwater Crossing1One of our favorite stops in the Clearwater Basin; pull-thru sites right along the river, level paved sites, and great landscaping.  We snagged Clearwater Crossing3our favorite site, 21, which put us right on the water.  Friendly managers checked to see if we needed anything, and we enjoyed our site enough to extend our stay for a week.  Good WiFi, we didn’t use the cable TV since our satellite worked well.  Verizon cell/data were slow but Clearwater Crossing2usable.  Although there are train cars behind the park, they’re in storage and we didn’t have any train noise; however, the logging trucks across the river can be noisy.  Plenty of interesting things to see in the area, and 30 miles from Lewiston for shopping.  $33/night based on weekly rate.  Clearwater Crossing RV Park

Powell Campground, Powell ID

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 10

Powell 1What all "campgrounds" should be - beautiful, spacious sites under the trees, the sound of a river in the background, and the smell of Powell 2pines - what a relaxing experience. Paved interior roads and sites with large sites in the electric loop. No cell or internet service, but Powell3you may have a shot through the trees at the TV satellites. The lodge is walking distance and has good food, and you may be able to receive email in the bar. A wonderful place to stay and a bargain with the senior pass.  An incredible $10/night.  Powell Campground

Black Rabbit RV Park, Hamilton MT

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 6

Black Rabbit1Located on the north side of Hamilton and convenient to town yet quiet at night. Interior roads and sites are gravel and Black Rabbit2our pull through site was just long enough to leave the tow attached. Sites are very close together, it's doubtful an awning could be extended. Lots of long term residents with outside Black Rabbit3items and ATVs, many who park on the interior roads nearly blocking access to a large motor home. Cable TV didn't work, WiFi was too weak to use, but only small trees to block satellite. Verizon cell/data was strong. There are few options in the area, and the park takes advantage by being overpriced for what they offer at $38/Night.  Black Rabbit RV Park

Countryside RV Park, Dillon MT

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Countryside1Our favorite stop when passing through the area.  Easy access to I-15 with long, level pull-thru sites.  Large sites with grass and table, Countryside2convenient hookups, and no obstructions to satellite TV.  No cable TV and little OTA TV.  Park WiFi was good, and Verizon Cell/Data was strong.  Convenient to town and Bannack State Park.  $35/night.  Countryside RV Park

Juniper Campground, Idaho Falls ID

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Juniper COE1This counry park is an excellent place to spend a few days with huge pull-thru sites and full-hookup sites. We weren't able to contact the host, so we used this review site and selected a pull-thru in loop C for the $16 Juniper COE2discounted fee (Golden Access Pass). Paved roads and sites, convenient hookups, and Verizon cell/data at our site. Dark and quiet at night. Some OTA TV but no Juniper COE3obstructions to the satellites. A bit off the highway but worth it for the location.  Juniper Campground

Fort Hall Casino Campground, Fort Hall ID

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 6

Located behind the casino, the park has pull-thru sites on fairly level gravel.  Sites are closely separated by a grass strip and have small trees.  Lots of construction noise during the day but fairly quiet at night, and within walking distance to the casino which is old, small, and being replaced by a new building.  Park WiFi was weak, no obstructions to TV satellite, little OTA TV, and good Verizon Cell/data.  Ask for B loop; we were in A loop and it is impossible to make the turn to exit without backing up if you have a large RV.  Reasonable at $25.  Fort Hall Casino Campground

Star Valley RV Resort, Thayne WY

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Star Valley Resort is a huge park with owner-owned sites that can be rented either through the office or directly from the owner.  We were able to rent from an owner for $25/night due to friends that have a lot in the park.  Our rental was updated with a concrete pad/patio, trees, and full hookups.  Reasonably large, the trees were small enough to allow satellite TV; there was little OTA TV and the park WiFi was weak.  Verizon cell/data was strong.  Quiet this time of year, the park has many amenities that can be used by visitors.  A pretty valley, but only the small town of Thayne nearby.  Star Valley RV Resort

Gowen Field Famcamp, Gowen NGB, Boise ID

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 10

Gowen Field1Our stay of choice when visiting the Boise area. A bit off the interstate, and it takes a bit of time to stop at Billeting and pick up a key to your Gowen Field2power box, but worth the effort. Safe, secure, and in a quiet area of the base with some airport noise but nothing bothersome. Only seven concrete back-in sites so reservations are a must. Our 40' motorhome had no trouble fitting onto our site, and hookups were convenient and worked well. Shade trees in the rear of the site with a table, although walking on the rough gravel is a bit difficult. Gowen Field3Very good OTA TV and good access to TV Satellites. No park WiFi but excellent Verizon cell/data. Convenient to downtown and shopping. The laundry is no longer free, but for the price ($15/night) this is an outstanding value.  Gowen Field Famcamp

Burns RV Park, Burns, OR

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD –9

A very well maintained park and the last row of pull-thru sites is exceptional. Extra long, level gravel, and ample shade with table and convenient hookups. Easy access to highway. Cable TV was very good analog, no OTA, and ask for a satellite-friendly site. WiFi was fair with a full park, and Verizon cell/data was strong. Quiet and dark at night with little road noise. The only place in town, so $41/night with Good Sam discount.  http://www.burnsrvpark.com/

Base Camp RV Park, Lakeview OR

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 6

Lakeview OR 1Dusty dirt and gravel interior roads and fairly level sites. Our site was shaded, but so close to our neighbor Lakeview OR 2that use of the patio awning was not possible. No table or room to put one. No cable or OTA TV and tough to get a clear shot of satellites with Lakeview OR 3a roof mounted dish. WiFi strength was fair, and Verizon cell/data worked well. Overpriced for what you get, but there's not much else in the area.  Overpriced at $35/night.  Base Camp RV Park

Valley of the Rogue State Park

Stay Date:  Sept 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Valley of the Rogue1Even with the air full of smoke from wildfires, this is another Oregon State park that delivers a Valley of the Rogue2quality product at a reasonable price. Large sites, both back-in and pull-thru are paved and most, but not all, are level. Lots of trees, gValley of the Rogue3reen grass, and paths to walk. No cable, little OTA, and depending on the site difficult to have a clear shot to the satellites. No WiFi but good Verizon cell/data. Close to Medford and many area attractions. In any other location this park would be a 10, but the interstate noise is significant.  A great stay for only $29/night.  Valley of the Rogue State Park

Calico Ghost Town RV Park, Barstow CA

Stay Date:  March 2017
Our Rating:  BAD – 4
CalicoRV1We had looked forward to staying here but were disappointed. We chose on our on-line reservation what looked like the largest site available with full hookups, but it didn't live up to expectations. CalicoRV2 Most of the site was rutted and on a slope way beyond our ability to level, with rocks and tree branches lying around. After maneuvering far to the right of the site, we were able to level side to side but the uphill slope meant we couldn't level without our rear wheels being off of the ground. The water fixture had two faucets, but one was broken off and the other didn't work.CalicoRV3 The park maintenance responded quickly, but while it worked, it leaked badly creating a large mud puddle. Very crowded on a Friday night with lots of noise from campers coming in late. Verizon cell/data was good, and there were no obstructions to the satellite.  There are some good, level sites here, but you can’t tell by the reservation information.  Way overpriced at $40 plus $7 reservation fee.  Calico Ghost Town RV Park.

Happy Time RV Park, Dunnigan CA

Stay Date:  March 2017
Our Rating:  Good – 5
Happy Time RV ParkThis park is tired, run down, and with lots of permanent residents, many of whom seem to have most of their possessions stacked outside. Happy Time RV Park2Trash cans were overflowing, roads were potholed, and the interstate noise is considerable. But, the folks were friendly and the hookups, except cable TV worked well. Level, gravel pull-thrus are staggered, with no table or fire ring at our site. Happy Time RV Park3No WiFi, but good Verizon cell/data, and no obstructions to satellite.  The red “RV” sign on the deteriorating tower was an annoyance at night.   Easy access to the interstate and truck stop make this an acceptable overnight stay.  Worth the $25/night.  Happy Time RV Park

Stafford RV Park, Stafford CA

Stay Date:  March 2017
Our Rating:  Good – 7
Stafford RV Park1Check in was with the friendly owner, and due to the heavy rains, the host took us to one of the seasonal sites with 50A power and sewer. Level Stafford RV Park2grass and gravel, the site was tight, with no table or room for one, but OK for one night. The park looks worn and could use updating, but the fStafford RV Park3olks were very friendly and with the PA discount the price was very reasonable. Good WiFi, Verizon Cell/data, but no cable TV. Noticeable noise from the highway, but otherwise quiet at night.  A worthwhile stop for the Passport America rate of $17.50/night.  Stafford RV Park

Robbins Nest RV Park, Bandon OR

Stay Date:  Jan 2017

Our Rating:  GOOD -10

Robbins Nest1As long-time full timers, we're always looking for a perfect park, and this is as close as it gets. It starts with the owners; friendly, helpful, and concerned with the quality of your stay. The location is perfect; three miles from the center of the picturesque town of Bandon and convenient to the beach. Robbins Nest2At night, you can hear the surf pounding in the distance. The sites are long, level pull-thrus with table, and the hookups are conveniently located. The park is along Highway 101, but the is fenced for privacy and noise reduction. The community room is furnished with TV, washer/dryer, game table, lending library and lots of local information. Robbins Nest3For once, we had an entire stay with strong, consistent WiFi, along with good Verizon cell and data. The park furnishes the equipment free for digital HD cable with multiple channels, and access to TV satellites is easy. Not a resort, just a great place to stay with great owners who take an interest. We'll be back.  A bargain at the winter montly rate of $385 (includes Electric) Robbins Nest RV Park
