Korte’s Checkers Welcome Campground, Welcome MN

Stay Date:  Sep 2018

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

A comfortable park with friendly staff, level pull-thrus, and plenty of shade. We wish more campgrounds were like this - easy in and out, good facilities, and a very reasonable price. The WiFi worked well, OTA TV was adequate, and Verizon cell/data was strong. Quiet and peaceful, our preferred park when traveling in the area.  Passport America Rate $23/Night.  Korte’s Checkers Welcome Campground

Crystal Springs RV Park, Ellendale MN

Stay Date:  Aug 2016

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Crystal Springs1Beautifully laid out park, with back-in sites on the lake. Gravel interior roads and large, level gravel sites. Convenient hookups, good WiFi, and Verizon cell/data were strong. Crystal Springs3Good OTA TV and clear shot to satellites. Although not far from the interstate, large trees and landscaping kept noise to a minimum. Beware that are no signs to the park; the dirt entry road is just past the northbound exit road of I-35; you'll parallel the interstate south for .5 miles to the park entrance. Crystal Springs2Call on arrival since there is no office; someone will come by to collect the fee (check or cash). Lots of nice grass, plenty of space between sites, and a beautiful lake to fish. A great place to spend time.  Reasonably priced at $30/night.  Crystal Springs RV Park

Jackpot Junction RV Park, Morton MN

Stay Date:  Aug 2016

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Jackpot Junction1We enjoyed our three-day stay here. Enter the casino loop & park just short of the park. Go to the player's club first and get a card to reduce the price to $25/night. Jackpot Junction2Then to the "tours" window to pay and get a site. We found the tours and campground host to be very friendly and helpful. The park is well laid out and easy to enter. Paved interior roads with large, level concrete pads and a patio with built-in table and a fire ring with grill. Grass covered spacious sites and solid hookups. Jackpot Junction3The cable was extensive and very clear, and there are no obstructions to the satellites. The WiFi was slow to moderate throughout our stay, and Verizon cell/data was good. No bathroom facilities at the park except porta-johns although plans are in the works to build a restroom/shower area. Overall, a pleasant stay - quiet, dark at night, and reasonably priced.  Jackpot Junction RV Park

Area Tips:  The Charles Lindberg museum and home are worth a visit in the nearby town of Redwood Falls.

Camp Ripley National Guard Post, MN

Stay Date:  Aug 2016

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Camp Ripley1Quiet, heavily treed, with huge sites spaced well apart, this park is a perfect getaway. Level, wide concrete pads, 50A power and water, with a convenient dump station at the exit. Camp Ripley2Fire rings and free firewood, large table, a short walk to the Mississippi River. Good WiFi, acceptable Verizon cell/data, and while there is no cable or clear area for satellites, we received nine OTA channels. Camp Ripley3Very quiet post, and except for the mosquitoes, a perfect place to spend a day or two.  An added bonus was the laundries – four large ones on base and all free. Camp Ripley4 A bargain at $17/night  Camp Ripley NG Post

Leech Lake COE Campground, Federal Dam, MN

Stay Date:  Aug 2016

Our Rating:  GOOD – 10

Leech Lake1This is the kind of park you wish for as a traveler - beautiful large sites in a park like setting. Paved interior roads are narrow but doable in a large motor home. Leech Lake2Our full-hookup site had a large table and fire ring, and backed up to the forest. No WiFi or cable, but Verizon cell/data worked well and although there are lots of trees, we were able to find the satellites with a tripod mount. Leech Lake4Extremely well maintained by a large cadre of friendly volunteers, quiet at night, and even free firewood from downed trees. An enjoyable stay and very reasonable using the Golden Access pass. Leech lake3Only a few full hookup sites, so reservations are a must.  Nothing within 30 miles so stock up before coming here.  One of the few “10s” that we’ve given.  $18/night with Senior Pass.  Leech Lake COE Campground.

Checker’s Welcome Campground, Welcome MN

Stay Date:  July 2016

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Welcome1This park is a great value, and even at full price rewards a visit with a quiet, relaxing stay. Long, level pull thru sites under large trees with lots of grass - the perfect place for a recliner, a good book, and a nap. Welcome3The owners were friendly and helpful, and are quick to provide assistance. No cable TV and few open areas for a satellite, but ample OTA TV. Good, solid WiFi, and Verizon cell/data were excellent. Welcome2Some train noise in the early evening, but quiet at night. Not a lot to do in the area, but perfect for a relaxing stay. We'll visit again.  An amazing value at the Passport America rate of $20/night.  Checker’s Welcome Campground

Camp Faribo, Faribault MN

Stay Date:  July 2010
Our Rating:  GOOD – 7
This is a nice park with friendly owners. During the week, it's quiet; however, when the weekend comes, it's a noisy, bustling place with kids riding the rent-a-trikes everywhere. Heavily treed, there is no satellite use although the owner has installed dishes throughout the park that you can hook up to. Sites are good sized, but with all of the parked cars it seems crowded. It rained while we were here, and the roads quickly became muddy and we ended up with a lot of dirt spray on our coach. No WiFi, but Verizon and Aircard worked well. Our stay was impacted by one of the workampers having four dogs that barked every time someone walked by. The town of Faribault doesn't have much to offer except a Super Wal-Mart just up the road, and there is road construction everywhere. Check with the park before visiting; during our stay the main exit to town was closed. Overall, an OK place, but a bit overpriced at $31/night.  Camp Faribo
