Shady Grove RV Park, Alamogordo NM

Stay Date:  Oct 2016

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Shady Grove1Alamogordo doesn’t offer much in the way of quality RV Parks, but this is a nice park at a very reasonable price.  We spent a month here; the long, level pull-thrus had a nice-sized tree for shade, a gravel patio, and a table. Shady Grove2 Acceptable cable TV, some OTA channels, and no obstructions to TV satellites.  The WiFi worked well, and we had good Verizon cell/data.  Not in the best neighborhood, but with easy access to the highway with little road noise.  Shady Grove3Close to Alamogordo’s shopping with easy access to Tularosa, Cloudcroft, and Ruidoso.  Friendly manager and owner.  Monthly rate of $300 included electric.  Shady Grove RV Park

Edgington RV Park, Alamogordo NM

Stay Date:  Oct 2016
Our Rating:  UGLY – 2
Edginton RV Alamogordo1We really wanted to like this park; the new owner was friendly, outgoing, and very helpful. But the deteriorating appearance, road noise, and trashy permanent resident area was just too much of negative for us to stay again.Edginton RV Alamogordo2 Sites are gravel and share the curbside area, with no picnic table or trees. Our site's electrical was jury rigged with a wobbly 50A box linked to an extension cord. No cable, but good OTA selection and few obstacles to the satellites. Spotty WiFi but good Verizon cell/data.  Edginton RV Alamogordo3We watched as a resident's dog wandered around and marked his territory on our tires and a cat used the site for a litter box. We can't recommend or stay here again.  Passport America rate is $18//night.  Edgington RV Park

Cactus RV Park, Tucumcari NM

Stay Date:  Oct 2016

Our Rating:  Good – 7

Tucumcari, NM1Other reviewers haven’t been as kind, but for us the park consistently provides a good overnight stay at a reasonable price. Much depends on the site you’re assigned, so try and get a pull-thru under the trees.  Friendly check-in and escort to our site, a long, level gravel pull-thru with shade. Convenient hookups, quiet location, and walking distance to a good restaurant. Tucumcari, NM2Extensive analog cable TV, and most sites have a clear view of satellites. Good Verizon cell/data, and the park WiFi worked well. Can be a bit dusty as RVs arrive/depart, but overall well worth the price.  Reasonable at $25/night.  Cactus RV Park

Roadrunner RV Park, Espanola, NM

Stay Date:  May 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 6
Roadrunner 1Not so much an RV park as a gravel parking lot with RV hookups and railroad tie dividers.  No restrooms or facilities, this park is all about location.  Roadrunner2Convenient to Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Bandelier National Monument, and across the street from two large casinos.  Sites are wide enough to park the tow vehicle next to the RV with room to spare, and there’s no table or grill to get in the way.  Friendly host and the permanent residents were quiet.  WiFi didn’t work well but Verizon cell/data were good.  No Roadrunner3trees, so clear shot to the TV satellites.  Not a destination park, but convenient to many area attractions with easy access to the highway.  Not a bargain at $27/night, but it’s all about the location.  Roadrunner RV Park.

Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel, Bernardo, NM

Stay Date:  May 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 8
Kiva RV Park1All by itself along a lonely stretch of I-25, this park surprised us with it’s facilities for such a low price.  Kiva RV Park2A friendly host at check in escorted us to our site in the back row, the farthest from the interstate and with large trees and privacy barrier.  Kiva RV Park3The interior roads and sites are all gravel, but our site was level and the hookups worked well.  No cable, but the park WiFi worked well and Verizon data/cell worked well.  Kiva RV Park4Surprisingly quiet at night even though close to the freeway.  A comfortable stay for a low Passport America rate of $14/night.  Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel

Cochiti Lake COE Park, Cochiti NM

Stay Date:  May 2014
Our Rating:  Bad – 4
Cochiti Lake 3We were looking forward to this park; it had high ratings, looked scenic, and had a great price for 50A and water.  On arrival though, we were disappointed by our site.  Although a long back in with parking area and sheltered patio/table, the site looked like a ski-ball ramp. Cochiti Lake1 Sloping downward and towards the driver’s side, it was impossible to get close to being level, even using blocks.  Everything was covered with pea gravel, including the patio and table, and there was trash stuck in the weeds around the site.  We also found that being high above the lake meant incessant winds.  Cochiti Lake2On the plus side, the scenery was wonderful and it was quiet and dark at night.  Verizon cell/data worked well even though we were 15 miles off the main road.  We decided to leave early, and told the host couple, who acted like we were bothering them.  So we left early, disappointed in our experience.  Since you have to reserve the site on line it’s difficult to determine if your site is level, and there are a few that were.  Rate with Golden Access pass was $10/night. Coachlight Motel & RV Park, Las Cruces NM

Stay Date:  May 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 7
Coachlight1This has become our stay of choice in Las Cruces.  Since we’re usually only here for an overnight, it’s fits our needs.  At first glance, not the best looking neighborhood, but we’ve never had a problem here and the people are friendly.  Coachlight2The RV park is in the back of the motel, and is gravel/dirt with level pull-thru sites and small trees.  Hookups all work well, and Verizon cell/data were very good.  The sites are long enough that you don’t have to unhook the tow, and there’s a diner out front for breakfast and lunch (we haven’t tried it).  Coachlight3Old Mesilla is just down the road, and we always make time for a visit to La Posta, our all-time favorite Mexican restaurant.  The park is quiet at night, and although it has easy access to I-10, the road noise is minimal.  Restrooms are in the motel, and we haven’t tried them.  Much cheaper than the $45/night Hacienda RV park at the Passport America rate of $18/night.  Coachlight Motel and RV Park

Rusty’s RV Ranch, Rodeo, NM

Stay Date: Apr 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 10
Chiricauhuas from EastWe can’t visit this part of the state without a stop at Rusty’s.  Huge sites, wonderful owners, and a view of the Chiricahuas – what could be better?  There’s been a few improvements since our last visit a year ago, but nothing significant to warrant new pictures.  Always a great stay, even without the Passport America discount that brings the price down to $16/night for full hookups including free WiFi.  Rusty’s RV Ranch

Rose Valley RV Park, Silver City, NM

Stay Date:  April 2014
Our Rating:  GOOD –9
We stayed at this park years ago, and were pleasantly surprised on our return how much the park as grown and improved.  Friendly hosts at check in, and good oiled gravel roads to our back-in site.  Each site has a rustic fence or shrubs planted to reduce the ever-blowing wind in the spring.  Hookups are convenient, and cable TV is furnished.  The park WiFi wouldn’t connect in our location, but Verizon cell and data were strong.  This has become a busy park with many long-term residents, most of who keep their sites neat and uncluttered.  The laundry, exercise, and library were all immaculate and well maintained.  Quiet at night, with easy access to the main shopping areas and downtown.  Reasonable at $27/night.   Rose Valley RV Park

Rusty’s RV Ranch, Rodeo, NM

Stay Date:  April 2014
Our Rating:  GOOD – 10
Rusty's 3There are so many RV parks – and most are the cookie-cutter variety.  So it’s a treat to find one that is unique; and Rusty’s certainly is that.  Located in the desert near the Chiracahua Mountains of Southeast Arizona (Rusty’s is just over the border in NM), it has become a mecca of sorts for amateur Rusty's 2astronomers and birder watchers.  The remote location makes for dark, crystal-clear nights, and the Chiracahua range has some of the best birding sites in the US.  The sites at Rust’s are huge – around 1/4 acre, and have a permanent Rusty's 1table and fire pit.  The pull-thrus are long (200’), level, and like the park roads, are dirt and gravel.  Hookups are centrally located, and the WiFi worked well, although Verizon cell and data were sporadic due to the location.  The owners are hands-on, friendly, and work hard to improve the park.  Each Friday they host a pot-luck and provide the main course (a wonderful Rusty's Pond and Gardenrice/sausage/broccoli dish on our visit), plates, and drinks in the clubhouse.  The clubhouse has an immaculate laundry and a large outside garden has trees, fountains, ponds, and bird feeders to make it a refreshing place to sit.  There’s a small above-ground pool and a pond surrounded Rusty's Pond and Garden2by trees and populated by a group of feisty geese.  There’s not much in Rodeo, but Portal, a small town at the entrance to Cave Creek Canyon, has a small store and café that serves the best green-chile cheeseburgers you’ll ever eat.  There are plenty of back roads and trails to explore, and the birding is exceptional.  You’ll probably run out of things to do after a while, but for a few days or a week this is an exceptional park.  The Passport America rate is good for three days @ $17/night for full hookups.  Rusty’s RV Ranch.

Coachlight Motel and RV Park, Las Cruces, NM

Stay Date:  March 2014
Our rating:  GOOD – 8
We’re always looking for a reasonable alternative to the highly-prices Hacienda RV Park when visiting Las Cruces, and found it with this park.  Easy to find and access off I-10, the park is part of a motel complex, and is fenced and secure.  Check in at the motel office was easy and efficient.  Sites and interior roads are dirt but were not dusty.  Sites were long enough to keep the tow attached, level, and hookups were conveniently located.  Not many trees, so satellite TV was unobstructed.  Free Wi-Fi worked well, and Verizon cell and data were very strong.  Despite being close to the interstate, the park was quiet without any road noise.  There’s a nice restaurant in front of the park that serves breakfast and lunch, and Old Mesilla is just down the street.  A great place to stay using the Passport America discount – $18/night for full hookups.  Coachlight Motel and RV Park

Twin Spruce RV Park, Ruidoso, NM

Stay Date:  March 2014
Our Rating:  GOOD – 6
Twin Spruce RV Park2This is our first stay at this park and we probably won’t return.  Conveniently located just outside of town off Rt 70, the park has an upper level for seasonal campers, and a lower level for transients.  Access is good, and interior roads are gravel with gravel sites.  Check in was easy with a friendly host, and we were able to get one Twin Spruce RV Parkof the larger sites, but it was too short to keep the tow vehicle hooked up.  The site was sloped side-to-side, and it wasn’t possible to get the motor home level without lifting wheels off the ground.  Satellite TV was obstructed by the many trees lining the back of the park, but the cable TV was extensive and most Twin Spruce RV Park3channels were clear.  The park WiFi was intermittent, but Verizon cell and data were good.  While dropping off trash in the dumpster, a worker came running out of the office demanding to know why I hadn’t disconnected the water the night before.  I advised him that it was our first night and the forecast was for a low of 38, although it got colder.  He seemed interested in continuing the conversation, but I was not, and left him standing there.  The park spaces are very close with a small strip of grass and a table, and if full it would be uncomfortable.  At $32/night it wasn’t a very good value and we’ll pass next time.  Twin Spruce RV Park

Siesta RV Park, Las Cruces, NM

Stay Date:  April 2012
Our Rating:  BAD – 5
We thought we'd avoid the overpriced RV park up the street where we’ve stayed before (Hacienda), but instead found another, less comfortable overpriced park. Dusty, short pull-through sites were close together and required disconnecting the tow to clear the entry streets. Poor Wi-Fi, but Verizon cell and data worked well. We were told the rate included a $2 for an extra person (over one occupant) because of a state requirement; apparently due to the water shortage. Had we been aware of the high price, we would have continued on to Deming as there is no park in Las Cruces worth $35+ per night.  We’ll try to bypass Las Cruces for the much cheaper Deming in the future.  $35/Night.  Siesta RV Park

Cactus RV Park, Tucumcari NM

Stay Date:  April 2011
Our Rating:  Good – 8
Cactus RV ParkA good place to stop if using Passport America; rate includes 50A service charge. The park is nothing fancy, but if you arrive early enough you can get one of the sites sheltered by trees to help block the ever-present wind. The owners are very friendly and guided us to the site. Hookups were very good and centrally located. Verizon Aircard worked, but very slow; Cactus RV Park2however, the free park wireless worked well. Dogs barking in the surrounding neighborhood were an irritant but not overly intrusive. Just down the street from Del's, the town's best restaurant, a clean, friendly place to eat.  PA rate $18/night.  Cactus RV Park

Caballo Lake RV Park, Caballo Lake, NM

Stay Date:  March 2011
Our Rating:  GOOD – 9
A well-maintained, great little park on the shores of Caballo Lake (although the lake is down and it’s a long walk).  The pull-thru sites are a bit short, but wide, and the 50A sites have small trees and shrubs.  Lots of birds and quail running around.  Convenient to I-25 (one mile) but fairly quiet at night.  Very informal, a host will meet you or give you instructions if you call as the office is not staffed.  Good hookups, fairly level gravel sites, and a great price – $15/night plus electric and tax.  Caballo Lake RV Park

Enchanted Trails Camping Resort, Albuquerque, NM

Stay Date: March 2011
Our Rating: GOOD – 6
This is an interesting park, with antique cars and trailers, old appliances and posters in the laundry and game room, and a nicely landscaped office/activity area. When we needed to change from a monthly to a weekly rate, the manager, who was very friendly, quickly changed the rate and provided a refund. There's a lot to like about this park; however, the sites are the front to back type, so you share your "yard" with your neighbor. In our case, we had a long term neighbor with a lot of trash, although since the sites are dirt/gravel, it's not a comfortable place to sit outside. A great place for a short stay, convenient to I-40 but fairly quiet, and reasonably priced.  High above the city, so expect a lot of wind, and of course, dust.  Reasonable at $26/night.  Enchanted Trails Camping Resort

Valley of the Fires State Park, Carrizozo, NM

Stay Date:  March 2011
Our Rating:  GOOD – 9
Valley of the Fires1With the Golden Access pass, this has to be one of the greatest bargains you'll find. Paved access roads, paved sites, covered pavilions with table and grill, and panoramic views of the lava beds and mountains make this little park a gem. The pull-thru sites are easy to access loops, but none are remotely level; better choice are the back in sites; they also provide a better view. Valley of the Fires2Our first attempt at a pull-thru resulted in a breaker that continually tripped. The host blamed it on our motorhome, but when we moved to a back-in site the power was fine. Not much in Carizozo, but there is a great nature trail through the lava beds at the park, and Capitan and the Smokey the Bear Museum and White Oaks ghost town are easy drives. Nightly rate $18 for water and 30A electric, $9 with Golden Access Pass.  Valley of the Fires State Park

Boot Hill RV Resort, Alamogordo, NM

Stay Date:  March 2011
Our Rating:  GOOD – 6
Boot Hill1We really like the owners, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. But $31/day for the weekly rate is just too much for a gravel parking lot, without trees or picnic table, poor water (not their fault), and significant road noise. The park has no septic system, so all waste water goes to holding tanks which the owner empties and trucks to the sewage plant, hence the washer fee. Or you can use the limited laundry at $2 per load, wash or dry. Boot Hill2Sites are large and hookups are convenient, but sorry, we can stay at other places in town for less with the same or better amenities.  They advertise entertainment have a covered area, but the venues seem to be limited to evangelical or other religious events. Rate is the weekly rate of $125 plus $20 fee to use our on board washer plus $33.50 in electric at $.15 per KH.  Boot Hill RV Resort

Trailer Village RV Park, Roswell, NM

Stay Date:  March 2011
Our Rating:  BAD – 5
RV SpaceWhile convenient to downtown Roswell and with friendly owners, we were disappointed with our stay. The pull-thru sites are adequate in length; however, they are very close together and privacy is at a premium. In our case, the slides with attached storage extended over the patio area, and because the picnic table was bolted to the RV Parkcement we were unable to open any compartments in that area. The security lights are extremely bright and annoying; the whole coach was lit throughout the night. Perhaps the neighborhood dictated them – I noticed our long-term neighbor had his BBQ chained to his RV.  On our second night, the wind shifted and we were treated to the smell of a feeder lot, so although it was pleasant outside, we had to close the windows and turn on the air. It's a shame; it would be a nice park with a little more attention to detail. $27 a night, Trailer Village RV Park

Carlsbad RV Park & Campground

Stay Date:  March 2011
Our Rating:  GOOD – 7
RV1An old KOA, composed of gravel and dirt sites with a few trees.  Not very scenic, but the sites were long and the hookups worked well.  On check-in we were greeted with a friendly staff and given a bag of presents – product samples and coupons.  RV2A small gift, but a nice touch.  The park selling point is it’s convenient location; close to Carlsbad Caverns and town.  The price is too much for a non-discounted stay – we used Passport America for two days and the stay was reasonable.  $22/night for 50A service.  Carlsbad RV Park & Campground.
