Deer Park Campground, Buffalo WY

This is a great place to stay while exploring the area. An old KOA, the interior gravel roads are easy to navigate and our gravel site, a "pull in - back out" was level and tree shaded. Lots of grass and shade, and quiet at night. Convenient to downtown and the highway. Park WiFi was usable depending on the time of day. Cable TV was fuzzy to

the point of being unusable, and satellite TV without a movable dish is iffy due to the trees. Verizon cell/data were strong. A comfortable stay in an interesting area.  $46/Night

Star Valley RV Resort, Thayne WY

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Star Valley Resort is a huge park with owner-owned sites that can be rented either through the office or directly from the owner.  We were able to rent from an owner for $25/night due to friends that have a lot in the park.  Our rental was updated with a concrete pad/patio, trees, and full hookups.  Reasonably large, the trees were small enough to allow satellite TV; there was little OTA TV and the park WiFi was weak.  Verizon cell/data was strong.  Quiet this time of year, the park has many amenities that can be used by visitors.  A pretty valley, but only the small town of Thayne nearby.  Star Valley RV Resort

Peter D’s RV Park, Sheridan WY

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

We love visiting Sheridan, and Peter D’s is our preferred stay.  The sites are painfully close together, the WiFi doesn’t work all that well, and there’s no pool or miniature golf, but who cares when you have an owner like Peter D?  He’s a delight – informative, funny, and caring of how you’re enjoying your stay.  Sites are level gravel, long enough to keep the tow attached, and although the OTA TV is limited, there’s 12-channel analog cable TV. Verizon cell/data were strong, and there are no obstructions to the TV Satellite.  Pete knows everything about Sheridan, and will happily spend an hour or so handing out maps and telling stories.  Easy access to I-90 and only a few blocks from town.  We’ll stay here again, even at $40/night.  Peter D’s RV Park

 

Area Tips:  The Rib and Chop House down the street has great food and reasonable prices.  The downtown area is vibrant has great shopping and cafe’s.  The “Trail End” museum is one of the best examples of restored mansions you’ll ever see.  And the drive on highway 14 into the Big Horn Mountains is an experience not to be missed!

Douglas KOA, Douglas WY

We seldom stay at KOAs, but this is a convenient location during our travels. Very friendly lady at check in, led us to our pull-thru site which was long enough to leave the tow vehicle attached. Very close to neighbor, gravel and dirt, and this time of year lots of mud. The usual KOA aggravating add-on charges, $2 for cable which was good, free WiFi was adequate, and Verizon cell/data was strong. Some long-term residents with outside items, but it appears they're in a separate area from campers. Probably a nice place in the summer, hard to tell this time of year, so we gave them the benefit with a “6” rating.  Far out of town, it's a place where we pay a premium price just for the convenience of an overnight stay along the interstate.  Overpriced, like all KOAs at $39/night.  Douglas KOA

Western Hills RV Park, Rawlins, WY

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

We spent two nights here due to a spring snowstorm.  Don't be tempted to turn into the park at the entrance of Cappy's restaurant, wait and turn at 23rd street to avoid bottoming out on a sharp curve. Check in was quick with a friendly and very helpful young lady. The park is basically a large flat area of an unusual surface; a mix of dirt and gravel that while holds up a vehicle when wet, results in a soft layer of mud. Sites are long enough to leave tow attached and have adequate space in between. OK cable TV, very good WiFi, didn't try the OTA TV. Verizon cell/data was strong, and no trees to impede satellite TV. Convenient to the interstate with shopping nearby.  $31/night with Good Sam Discount.  Western Hills RV Park

Area Tips:  Cappy’s restaurant is withing walking distance, but while it has good food, the smell of grease and a dirty interior is a good reason to explore the town.  There’s a new Super Wal-Mart at the east end of town, plenty of fast food joints, and an interesting downtown area.

Peter D’s RV Park

This park is worth a visit just to meet Peter D.  Friendly, helpful, and with a sense of humor uncommon for an RV park owner.  He’ll give you maps, brochures, and tell you all about Sheridan, and he’ll even stop by and ask if everything at your site is OK.  The park is easy to access off the interstate, but you have to look for Joe Street where you turn right, and the turn is on a significant slant.  Park roads and sites are gravel and level, but very close together.  There’s grass, no many trees, and a nice view of the horses in the meadow next door.  Cable was limited and the WiFi was often slow, but Verizon cell/4G were very good.  Quiet and dark at night, this is a great place to stay and explore Sheridan, and although the price is on the high side it’s the most reasonable in town. 

Absaroka Bay RV Park, Cody WY

We enjoyed our stay here; a reasonable rate for accessibility to Cody, Yellowstone, and the Beartooth Highway. Our pull-through site was just long enough for our 40'MH, and there was a space adjacent for tow vehicle parking. Sites are fair-sized, level gravel with grass but no shade. Very good free Wi-Fi, no cable but clear shot to satellite. Verizon cell and Aircard service were good. Owners were very friendly and were eager to please. Excellent large laundry facility with reasonable prices. Road noise, a distraction during the day, tapered off at night and was easy to live with.  With the weekly rate, the $28/night was very reasonable.  Absaroka Bay RV Park.

Ten Broek RV Park, Ten Sleep, WY

One of those delightful parks that you enjoy staying at.  Cool shade, pull thrus, and good hookups.  A friendly ol’ cowboy owner who takes you to your sites, helps you park, and shows you the unusual hookups (water/elec on the right).  We were able to get a site under the trees and still have a clear shot at the DirecTV satellite.  Beautiful green grass and a table at each site.  Located in the quaint town of Ten Sleep with a great little restaurant, the Crazy Woman Café, and close to Ten Sleep Canyon and mountain roads where we saw moose.  A great place to stay, but not cheap at $33/night.  No cable or WiFi.  Ten Broek RV Park.

Wyoming Cam-Plex, Gillette WY

This is a rally location only, and is part of a large complex.  Sites are located in fields surrounding the complex, well beyond walking distance, and are composed of dead grass and dirt.  Full hookups are available, and some sites have 50A.  Leveling is a problem, and blocks will be necessary at most sites.  No shade or tables, just a place to park.  Gillette is an industrial town with little to offer except shopping and average dining places.  There’s no reason to stop here except for a rally, and having been here we won’t return.  Price depends on rally cost.  Wyoming Cam-Plex.

Western Hills RV Park, Rawlins WY

A good overnight stay in an area with few options.  Basically a large gravel parking lot with hookups, the sites are not very large but level.  No trees to get in the way of the satellite, and free cable TV and adequate WiFi.  Verizon cell and Aircard worked well.  Easy access to I-80 although not much traffic noise at night, but some train noise.  Easy walking distance to an adequate and forgettable restaurant.  Cool at night with an elevation of 7000’.  Pretty much a ho-hum overnight stop with a reasonable price of $27/night.  Western Hills RV Park

Fort Bridger RV Camp, Fort Bridger WY

There’s not a lot of choices on this part of I-80, but Fort Bridger turned out to be a nice place to spend the night.  We called ahead, and even though they were not officially open, the friendly lady manager told us to c’mon in, and she’d turn on the water for us.  The park is a large grassy area, with dirt roads and long pull-thru sites.  Not many trees so there’s a clear shot to the satellite.  Because of the time of year, it was a bit muddy and stark, but it looks like it would be a pretty place in the summer.  No cable TV, and free WiFi was spotty; Verizon cell service was marginal and the Aircard unusable.  The park sits behind historic Fort Bridger, and was quiet during our visit.  Beware stepping tin the moose droppings!  All this for $25/night.  Fort Bridger RV Camp

Casper KOA, Casper WY

KOAs tend to be overpriced for an overnight stay, and this one was no exception.  Nice office, friendly staff, but otherwise just a gravel parking lot with hookups.  It did have a patio and table, but the table was run down and there was trash everywhere.  Free cable TV and WiFi worked well, and Verizon Cell and Aircard were strong.  Located a few miles North of Casper on the Interstate,  so there was some traffic noise.  Surrounded by  a less than stellar neighborhood, but it was quiet and dark at night.  At $44/night, we’ll plan on avoiding this park in the future.   Casper KOA

A pleasant surprise; all by itself along I-80 in a town where the only restaurant is a Taco Time. Great owners, friendly - went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay. Open, level grass sites, not much shade but fine with us. Good utilities although water pressure was sometimes very low. Free WiFi was strong and steady. Verizon cell and Aircard worked well.  No cable TV, but clear shot at satellite.  Nothing fancy, just a comfortable place with helpful owners, for around $30/night.  Lyman KOA

Colter Bay Village RV Park, Grand Teton NP, WY

I'm afraid I'm not as enamored with this park as others; perhaps because the park is not particularly big-rig friendly. After waiting in line for 30 minutes while two inconsiderate motorhomers disconnected their tows (yes, while in line and after checking in), we pulled into our site, which was downhill and tight because of trees and untrimmed branches. It was necessary to disconnect the tow, then back up to the rear of the site to get fairly level and avoid trees for the slide outs. Hookups were OK, but no satellite due to trees. No cable TV, No WiFi, and no Verizon service.  It's the only hookup location in the area, but even then, $52 a night is too steep for what your get.

Indian Campground, Buffalo WY

A very nice campground; on arrival we were greeted by the friendly and helpful owner & helped with refilling our propane tank. Sites are level gravel with large trees and convenient hookups. Free cable and good free WiFi. Satellite TV will require a portable dish due to the trees.  Verizon cell and Aircard worked well. Next to the interstate but not too much noise. Close enough to walk to restaurants in a beautiful setting.  $38/night is too pricy; we’ll look for another place next time.  Indian Campground
