Caboose Lake Campground, Remington IN

Stay Date:  July 2016

Our Rating:  UGLY –3

Caboose Lake2We try to review RV Parks before we visit them, but sometimes one will escape us.  In this case, reviewers commented on the road noise, but most said that while it was noticeable, they didn’t have a problem.  They must have been hard of hearing.  First, the park is located right alongside the interstate, but the bad part is that it’s right at an exit that features a large truck stop.  So not only do you get the normal road noise, but also the teeth-jarring sound of exhaust brakes as trucks slow down on the exit.  Caboose Lake3To reach our site required a long drive on a road that generated fine dust, all the way to the end of the park and then back to our pull through.  The sites were too narrow to extend our passenger side slide without hitting a tree, but there was grass and a fire ring.  Verizon cell/data worked well, and there were a few OTA TV channels.  But it doesn’t matter – don’t stay here.  The ever-present roar of trucks and exhaust brakes even penetrated our ear plugs and left us exhausted the next day.  All this for $41/night.  Caboose Lake Campground

Eby’s Pines RV Park and Campground, Bristol IN

Stay Date:  June 2010
Our Rating:  GOOD – 7
Not really an overnight stopping place, but a large, commercial-feeling waterpark and campground.  It’s an easy three miles off the interstate, and if you're lucky (like we were), you’ll get a spot away from the water park area.   Dirt interior roads and pull thru sites, lots of tall pines shielding the sky, but ask at the office, there are some sites with access to the satellite.  No cable TV, WiFi for a fee.  Sites were level and good sized.  We were lucky to have a rainshower which drove everyone inside, otherwise we faced a noisy night of parties.  For $39 it’s a nice place but too expensive for an overnight.  Eby’s Pines RV park and Campground

Deer Ridge Resort, Richmond IN

Stay Date:  September 2006
Our Rating:  3 – UGLY
This is a predominately seasonal camper park, certainly not close to being a resort.  On arrival, the drive was blocked by office personnel gabbing, and we had to ask them to move a car so that we could get through.  Sites were gravel, rutted pull-thrus, with lots of weeds.  Lots of big trees, impossible to get clear a shot of the satellite.   Verizon cell and Aircard worked well.  30A only, no cable TV and poor broadcast quality, WiFi didn’t work while we were there.  Owner/manager was rude, and refused to accept our CitiCard because he was having a dispute with them.  I can’t think of one reason to stay here, and for $36/night there are better choices in the area.
