There’s not a lot of choices on this part of I-80, but Fort Bridger turned out to be a nice place to spend the night. We called ahead, and even though they were not officially open, the friendly lady manager told us to c’mon in, and she’d turn on the water for us. The park is a large grassy area, with dirt roads and long pull-thru sites. Not many trees so there’s a clear shot to the satellite. Because of the time of year, it was a bit muddy and stark, but it looks like it would be a pretty place in the summer. No cable TV, and free WiFi was spotty; Verizon cell service was marginal and the Aircard unusable. The park sits behind historic Fort Bridger, and was quiet during our visit. Beware stepping tin the moose droppings! All this for $25/night. Fort Bridger RV Camp

Casper KOA, Casper WY
Stay Date: April 2010
Our Rating: BAD –6
KOAs tend to be overpriced for an overnight stay, and this one was no exception. Nice office, friendly staff, but otherwise just a gravel parking lot with hookups. It did have a patio and table, but the table was run down and there was trash everywhere. Free cable TV and WiFi worked well, and Verizon Cell and Aircard were strong. Located a few miles North of Casper on the Interstate, so there was some traffic noise. Surrounded by a less than stellar neighborhood, but it was quiet and dark at night. At $44/night, we’ll plan on avoiding this park in the future. Casper KOA

Rush No More RV Park and Campground, Sturgis SD
Stay Date: April 2010
Our Rating: GOOD – 7
There was still some snow on the ground when we were here, so we were one of only a few RVs, but it was still an enjoyable stay. Friendly hosts checked us in, and we picked one of many gravel pull-thru sites. Sites are not very level and are barely adequate in size. The park sits off the Interstate in a beautiful valley and was quiet during our stay, but is probably crowded and noisy and during the summer. Not many trees at sites, so we had a clear shot at the satellite. Verizon cell and Aircard worked well, and the park free WiFi was strong. The location, between Sturgis and Rapid City, is convenient to Deadwood, the Black Hills, and Mount Rushmore. At $37.50/night, it’s what you would expect from a park in this area. Famil-E-Fun Campground, Mitchell SD
Stay Date: April 2010
Our Rating: GOOD – 8
Sometimes a campground stay is made better by the friendliness of the owners, and this was one of those. Although struggling to open after a horrible winter, the owners went out of their way to make sure the water worked, our site was clear, and that we had a good overnight stay. Bare trees and brown grass with snow in the shade detracted from the appearance, but this looks like a pretty, tree-shaded park in the summer. Verizon Aircard and cell service were good and the park has free WiFi. Dark at night with only a minimum of noise from the interstate. For $25/night, this park is a bargain. AOK Campground and RV Park, St Joseph MO
Stay Date: April 2010
Our Rating: GOOD – 7
Convenient to I-29 on a scary, narrow dirt road, then down a hill to the parking area. The new owner is making visible improvements, and our site was level gravel with good hookups. Verizon Aircard and cell service were very good. No cable, and a fair amount of trees, but our site had a clear shot at the satellite. Free WiFi worked well. Quiet and dark except for freeway noise, this was a good overnight and probably a nice destination park in the summer. The reasonable very price of $20/night made this a worthwhile stay. Post View RV Park, Post TX
Stay Date: March 2010
Our Rating: GOOD – 7
The Passport America rate of $12.50/night helped elevate the rating of this park. While not a destination park, it serves the purpose of a good overnight stop. Big, level pull-thrus, 50A power, and quiet at night. On a dusty 1/4 mile road; watch for the park on the left. Verizon Aircard and phone service was very good. No cable or WiFi, but clear shot to satellite. Very informal check-in; if no one is around, drop the money in a slot. Owner is very friendly and the Passport America rate is a bargain. Camp Huaco Springs, New Braunfels, TX
Stay Date: Multiple, Last March 2010
Our Rating: GOOD – 9
This has become our winter home for a three or four month stay. The low monthly rate
($295) includes full hookups (50A) – a real bargain. The sites are very large, and the area is quiet during the winter months. Hookups are unique; each site is three lanes wide with hookups at each side. This allowed us to pull in nose-first with a great view overlooking the cypress-lined Guadalupe River. Sites have a large cement patio, picnic table, and barbecue on a stand. The area is generally quiet except for motorcycles on the adjacent River Road, and was only a
bit crowded once the state began stocking trout every Friday in December. The staff was very friendly, there is a small store, and WiFi (weak & spotty) is free. Verizon cell and Air Card worked very well, and there’s a clear shot to the satellite. Just a short 3 miles from Nw Braunfels which has all amenities, and less than an hour from downtown San Antonio and the fabulous RiverWalk. No pets, glass, or Styrofoam allowed along the river, but during the winter small pets are allowed in the RV area. This is a huge "toobing" area during the summer and is crowded and noisy.
