3 Fingers Campground, Forest City IA

Stay Date:  Sept 2018

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

A short drive west of town, this seasonal park has a number of long, level pull-thru sites for short term guests. The host was friendly and helpful, and access into the site was easy. Hookups were conveniently placed, some OTA TV channels, and fair WiFi. Verizon cell/data were strong. The preferred park when waiting for service in Forest City.  $40/Night  3 Fingers Campground

Little Bear Campground, West Liberty IA

Stay Date:  Sep 2018

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9

Like others, we stayed here to make an early A.M. appointment at HWH. On arrival, we were met by the very friendly owner, who suggested the best site for shade and easy egress. Our site was level gravel, well shaded, and long enough to leave our tow attached. There was some noise from the adjacent truck stop but overall the park was quiet at night. Just a couple of OTA TV channels, no cable, but some sites had a view to the satellite. Good WiFi until evening when everyone got on line. Verizon cell/data was strong. Overall a pleasant and the best place to stay for an early HWH appointment.  Reasonable at $32/Night  Little Bear Campground

On-Ur-Way RV Park, Onawa IA

Stay Date:  Sep 2018

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

On-Ur-Way Campground2Tidy park with good access to the interstate. Dusty interior roads and long, pull thru sites with some shade. Friendly hosts On-Ur-Way Campground3provided an escort to site, which was level and with convenient hookups. Park WiFi worked well, and Verizon cell/data was very good. No cable, little OTA, but the pull thru sites had a clear shot to the TV Satellites. Not much in the area, just a clean, quiet place to overnight.  $37/Night  On-Ur-Way RV Park

Shelby Country Inn and RV Park, Shelby IA

Stay Date:  June 2010
Our Rating:  REALLY UGLY – 2
Yikes, what a dump!  Located behind a truck stop, you check in at the motel office, then drive through the tractor-trailer ruts to an open field with drive thru sites so narrow that our motorhome wheels hung over into the grass.  Our first attempt at a site resulted in it not having power, our second attempt, in another rutted, uneven site, finally worked.  No trees, not amenities, and the restrooms from the outside looked like Forest Service pit toilets.  No Cable TV, no WiFi, but Verizon cell and Aircard worked well.  Noisy at night with trucks entering and leaving the truck stop, with lots of bright lights to add insult to injury.  At $32/night, this dump is a rip off and we wouldn’t have stayed but there was no option in the area.  Would have been a “0” rating but the hookups worked well.

Amana Colonies RV Park, Amana IA

Stay Date:  July 2009
Our Rating:  BAD – 6
A large expanse of grass without tree or bush, this campground fills the basic requirement of a place to park but not much else. Dirt roads and big, long dirt sites, but it didn't matter much over the 4th of July as the place was almost empty. Long walk to office or restrooms, although the dumpsters were convenient. Free WiFi was spotty and Verizon Aircard just barely worked. No cable, no broadcast TV, no pool, no playgrounds, just lots of grass and a place to park. No trees, so easy shot to satellite.  Close to the Amana Colonies, interesting but expensive if you decide to shop. We were interested in seeing the area, but there isn't enough to lure us back to this bare-bones park.  Overpriced at $32/night.  Amana Colonies RV Park
