Cotton Lane RV Park, Goodyear, AZ

Stay Date:  Oct 2015

Our Rating:  GOOD – 7

Cotton Lane3This large snowbird park was mostly empty during our visit, which considering the narrow sites made it acceptable for our four-slide motor home. Paved interior roads with gravel sites and Cotton Lane2a strange arrangement where the patio was at the rear of the site. Small trees, so no TV satellite obstruction and lots of OTA channels. Good Cotton lane1Verizon cell and 4G, but park WiFi was too slow probably because of our location on the far side of the park. Convenient to I-10 and Loop 303, so a good stay for easy access, otherwise nothing special about this park.  We’d avoid it during the winter months.  Pricey at $34/night.  Cotton Lane RV Park

Blake Ranch RV Park, Kingman, AZ

Stay Date:  Oct 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD - 8
Blake Ranch2Easy access to the interstate and 12 miles from Kingman, this park is our choice of places to stay when transitioning the area. The level gravel Blake Ranch3sites are at the top of an uphill slope and it can be difficult unhooking a tow vehicle, but with a restaurant within walking distance there’s no need to unhook for one night. Sites have partial shade and a table, and are well spaced. Blake Ranch1The park WiFi worked well in spite of the number of RVs present, and Verizon cell/4G were strong. Cable TV was adequate and there were no obstructions for a TV satellite. Friendly office staff. This is a popular place and was full by early afternoon, so reservations are a must.  Reasonable with the Good Sam discount; $27/night.  Blake Ranch RV Park.

Young’s RV Park, Caliente, NV

Stay Date:  Oct 2015

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Young's RV2Caliente is a small town in the midst of a beautiful area, and this park has great views of the surrounding mountains.  At the south end of town with easy access, Young's RV4check in was with the very friendly and helpful owner.  Interior roads and sites are gravel, with small trees planted in the rear of the sites.  Convenient Young's RV3hookups and plenty of room between sites.  No cable TV, but clear shot to TV satellites.  The park WiFi worked well, and Verizon cell/data were good.  Some long-term Young's RV1residence but not much clutter.  Quiet at night with no road noise.  Lots to see in the area, and we’ll be back.  With Passport America the first night is 50% off, all others 10%.  A great place at $23/night.  Young’s RV Park

Valley View RV Park

Stay Date:  Oct 2015

Our Rating:  Good – 7

Valley View1Convenient to the highway, with fairly level gravel pull-throughs near the front of the park. Friendly folks at check-in. A bit tricky navigating Valley View2the pull-through between the trees for big rigs, but doable. Trees blocked the satellite, but there were plenty of OTA channels available and a an extensive cable selection. Valley View3Verizon cell and data were strong, and the park WiFi worked well. Plenty of truck noise throughout the night, otherwise a quality stay.  OK price at $27/night.  Valley View RV Park

Sparks Marina RV Resort, Sparks, NV

Stay Date:  Oct 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 10
Sparks Marina1Lots of places use the term “resort” but this is truly one that earns the title.  Check I under the portico across from the pool, indoor hot tub, rec room and Sparks Marina2lounge, then get an escort to your site.  Paved streets and pads, artificial grass between sites, picnic table with grill area, and a shade tree, with parking next to your rig.  Sites Sparks Marina3are not large, but are laid out so that there’s a comfortable area for the table and to lounge in chairs under the tree.  Good cable, solid WiFi, and clear shot to TV satellites, with Sparks Marina4strong Verizon cell and 4G.  Convenient to a large shopping area with all the restaurants, i.e., BJ’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Outback, etc. and on the corner be sure and visit Sinbad’s Hot Dogs, some of the best ever.  Down the street is the Western Casino with fairly loose slots and a great restaurant, Pancho and Willy’s.  One of our top three places in the country, for good reason.  Worth the price at $46/night.  Sparks Marina RV ResortSparks Marina5

Hawk’s Nest RV Park, Tionesta, CA

Stay Date:  Oct 2015

Our Rating:  GOOD – 7

Hawks Nest RV Park5This is a nice little park in the pines far away from any town but near the Lava Caves NP.  Stock up before you come, because it’s 27 miles to the nearest small town (Tulelake), 60 to any town of size (Klamath Falls). Hawks Nest RV Park4 It’s a narrow paved road for two miles off the highway, then gravel entry and interior roads.  The owner was very friendly and helpful, and assigned us a large pull-thru site.  Hawks Nest RV Park1Sites are fairly level and have a picnic table, but are dusty.  Hookups are OK, except for the annoying sewer hookup 8” above ground, and an occasional power Hawks Nest RV Park3fluctuation that would cause the surge protector to shut down the power.  Verizon cell and data were surprisingly good, and OTA TV produced 10 channels.  Rooftop satellite was blocked by trees, but there were places for a tripod.  Hawks Nest RV Park2The park hosts a large campfire each night, but with temperatures in the high 70s we declined to participate.  Quiet and dark at night.  Lots of wildlife, including a hen turkey and her chicks that were frequent visitors.  A pretty good deal at $25/night.  Hawk’s Nest RV Park

Mill Casino 2015We stay here frequently and are always pleased with the results.  Very professional staff, all paved roads and sites, and a nice view of Coos Bay.  Mill Casino2 2015Good cable TV and adequate WiFi, with excellent Verizon cell/4G and no obstructions to satellites.  Sites are extra wide and have nice landscaping, and hookups were conveniently placed.  A free shuttle will pick you up and take you the casino where there is an excellent restaurant and snack bar.  Mill Casino3 2015With our player’s card discount, it’s a bargain at $15/night.  Mill Casino RV Park.

Silver Spur RV Park, Silverton, OR

Stay Date:  June2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 9
Silver Spur RV Park1We enjoyed our stay at this nicely maintained, professionally run park.  Interior roads and sites were gravel, but pull thrus were long and level.  Excellent cable and WiFi, even when the park was full.  Silver Spur RV Park2Easy entry, but exit requires a round about route to reenter the highway.  Some road noise during the day, but fairly quiet at night.  Verizon cell/4G were strong, and there were no obstructions to the satellite.  Silverton is a quaint little town, Silver Spur RV Park3and Silver Falls State Park is well worth the trip.  A bargain at the Passport America rate of $20/night.  Silver Spur RV Park

Vale Trails RV Park, Vale OR

Stay Date:  June 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 7
Vail Trails1This is a quiet, tree-shaded park in the small town of Vale.  After check in, you drive back onto the road to enter the pull-thru areas.  Vale Trails2Interior roads and sites were gravel, and the site was level although hookups were placed well in back of the normal parking position.  Trees prevented use of the rooftop satellite, although there may be sites with a clear shot if requested.  Vale Trails3Cable TV was limited, and the free WiFi worked well.  Verizon cell/4G was good.  Nice lady in the office.  A good stopover for $31/night.  Vale Trails RV Park

Clearwater Crossing RV Park, Orofino, ID

Stay Date:  June 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 9
Clearwater Crossing1This is a great little park sitting beside the Clearwater River in the little town of Orofino.  All paved roads and sites, with just a few outstanding pull thrus that put your patio side right on the river.  Clearwater Crossing2We managed to snag on (site 21) and couldn’t have asked for a better location.  Long, (90 feet), with patio and table, we were right on the river.  Very friendly host who stopped by to make sure we were comfortable.  Clearwater Crossing3Limited cable TV, good WiFi, with good Verizon cell/data.  Getting to the park requires driving over a short stretch of dirt road and a railroad track, so take it slow.  Quiet except for the sounds of rushing water.  Considering the area and the site, reasonable at $36/night.  Clearwater Crossing RV Park

Lolo Square dance Center and RV Campground, Lolo MT

Stay Date June 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 8
Squaredance Center1This was our second visit to this campground and we enjoyed the location, quiet, and tall trees.  Two miles off highway 93, the park has easy access and a very friendly staff.  Squaredance Center2Interior roads are dirt/gravel and there is some dust, and sites are mostly gravel and level.   Nice grassy area between each site with a table.  Limited cable and very strong WiFi, and Verizon cell/4G were very good. Squaredance Center3 Lots of trees, but with a little luck you can find a view of the TV satellites.  Busy up front on Friday and Saturday with all of the square dancers, but quiet in the campground area.  Convenient to Missoula (9 miles) and other attractions further south.  Weekly rate was lowered the daily cost to $28/night, the most reasonable price in the area.  Lolo Square dance Center and RV Campground

Fairmont RV Park, Anaconda, MT

Stay Date:  June 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD - 6
Fairmont RV Park1Well off the interstate, the park is average except in price. Check-in was by a disinterested office clerk, although her assistant was friendly and helpful. Fairmont RV Park2Gravel interior roads and sites, with a sewer hookup that was too far to the rear to use without an extension. Sites are above medium sized with grass and trees; however, there's room for a clear view of the TV satellites. Fairmont RV Park3Verizon cell/4G were strong, and the free WiFi was spotty. Next to a hot springs resort, but otherwise not much in the immediate area. Without a specific reason to spend time here, the overnight price is excessive and we'll look elsewhere when traveling through the area. Overpriced at $38/night.  Fairmont RV Park

Mountain Range RV Park, Columbus, MT

Stay Date:  Jun 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 8
Mountain Range1Close to the interstate with easy access but not much noise, the park is slightly terraced with long, mostly level pull-thru gravel sites. Mountain Range2Friendly office staff at check in. WiFi was typical campground erratic and there's no cable but some OTA TV. Some trees but not much Mountain Range3impedance to satellite TV. Verizon cell/4G were very good, and hookups worked well. A good overnight stop that we'll use again. A bit pricy at $37.50.  Mountain Range RV Park

Peter D’s RV Park

Stay Date:  June 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 8
Peter D's 1This park is worth a visit just to meet Peter D.  Friendly, helpful, and with a sense of humor uncommon for an RV park owner.  Peter D's 2He’ll give you maps, brochures, and tell you all about Sheridan, and he’ll even stop by and ask if everything at your site is OK.  The park is easy to access off the interstate, but you have to look for Joe Street where you turn right, and the turn is on a significant slant.  Park roads and sites are gravel and level, but very close together.  Peter D's 3There’s grass, no many trees, and a nice view of the horses in the meadow next door.  Cable was limited and the WiFi was often slow, but Verizon cell/4G were very good.  Quiet and dark at night, this is a great place to stay and explore Sheridan, and although the price is on the high side it’s the most reasonable in town.

Ellsworth Famcamp, Ellsworth AFB, SD

Stay Date:  May 2015
Our Rating:  GOOD – 9
Ellsworth1The Ellsworth AFB Famcamp provides a reasonably priced location to explore the Black Hills. Five miles west of Rapid City, it's an easy drive to Custer State Park and other attractions. Access is by any of the three gates without restriction, and check in was easy with the very friendly and helpful host. Ellsworth2Sites are level concrete, a mix of back-ins in the old section and pull-thrus in the new, for a total of 38 RV sites with 8 more under construction. The WiFi worked, but was affected by the number of campers using it, and Verizon cell/4G was good. Ellsworth3No cable, but clear shot to TV satellites and good OTA TV. Grass was high on arrival due to snow/rain but was cut while we were there, as usual spraying grass onto the RV. Ellsworth4Probably the most professional gate guards in the military, and everyone at the commissary, BX, etc., was friendly and helpful. The $1 raise in rates provides free washers and dryers, so the nightly rate is now $21. This is a popular place, so make reservations.  Ellsworth AFB Famcamp
