Sunrise Valley RV Park, Mina NV

Stay Date:  April 2012

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Mina RV ParkThis park doesn't have to be this nice; after all, it's the only place in the middle of nowhere. But it is, and we always enjoy our stay here. The owner is friendly, there's some interesting aviation memorabilia, long, long, pull-through sites, and even some shade. Verizon cell worked OK, but data was too slow to be usable. Mina RV Park2We had no problem getting a DirecTV signal. A bit of road noise at night, but not enough to be a distraction. Maybe not the best park you'll stay in, but it's comfortable, affordable, and a convenient stop on lonely Highway 95. We'll stay here again.  Reasonable at $25/Night.  Sunrise Valley RV Park

Desert Eagle Famcamp, Las Vegas, NV

Stay Date:  Multiple, Last April 2012

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Nellis FamcampOne of the best military campgrounds in the system. Convenient to the Interstate and just across the highway from the main base with it's excellent BX and Commissary. Most sites are back in, huge, and all have concrete pads. The free Wi-Fi worked reasonably well, and Verizon cell and data service were good. Nellis Famcamp2The park is known for it's exceptional staff - everyone we met was friendly and helpful. A great place to stay when visiting Las Vegas.  $21/Night.  Desert Eagle Famcamp

Our Rating:  GOOD – 9
Distant Drums RV ParkAn excellent park with great facilities and a friendly staff. An escort led us to our site on the paved roads, and each site is level concrete with a parking pad.  The lots would be improved with a table, you’ll have to bring your own if you plan on grilling outside.   Landscaping throughout the park is exceptional, and although near the Interstate, it's quiet at night. Distant Drums RV Park2The free Wi-Fi worked well, and Verizon data service was usable, but slow. The location provides an excellent base for visiting Sedona, Montezuma Castle, and other area attractions. As mentioned, the showers are cleaned after each use, a remarkable service. A medium-sized casino is across the Interstate and has all of the usual dining opportunities.  We enjoyed our stay here and will return.  $33/night.  Distant Drums RV Resort

Siesta RV Park, Las Cruces, NM

Stay Date:  April 2012
Our Rating:  BAD – 5
We thought we'd avoid the overpriced RV park up the street where we’ve stayed before (Hacienda), but instead found another, less comfortable overpriced park. Dusty, short pull-through sites were close together and required disconnecting the tow to clear the entry streets. Poor Wi-Fi, but Verizon cell and data worked well. We were told the rate included a $2 for an extra person (over one occupant) because of a state requirement; apparently due to the water shortage. Had we been aware of the high price, we would have continued on to Deming as there is no park in Las Cruces worth $35+ per night.  We’ll try to bypass Las Cruces for the much cheaper Deming in the future.  $35/Night.  Siesta RV Park

Lazy Days RV Campground, Tucson, AZ

Stay Date:  Multiple, Last April 2012
Our Rating:  GOOD – 9
This park continues to improve under the new Lazydays management. We dined at the relocated restaurant for lunch and were impressed; the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Security is very good, both at the gates and in roving patrols, important since the park's location, while convenient to the interstate, is in a less than desirable location. Every employee that we came in contact with was friendly, cheerful, and concerned with our stay - there's even a concierge in the office. The free Wi-Fi worked well except when overwhelmed in the evenings, and the cable TV was limited but clear. Our pull-through site during this visit was on an uphill angle, but otherwise the site and hookups were good. This park would be perfect if there were paved pads instead of the gravel which is difficult to walk on, but it's still one of the best places we've visited.  $33/Night.  Lazydays RV Campground

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, TX

Stay Date:  Multiple, Last Date April 2012

Our Rating:  GOOD – 7

This is a regular stop for us in this part of Texas and while not a resort, the park provides everything needed for an overnight stay. Much depends on which site is assigned, since some are sandy and short, while others that front the entrance road are long and shaded. Hookups work well and Verizon cell and data were good. The cafe offers a limited menu, and it and the office are staffed by friendly folks; we enjoy not having to cook or unhook to drive to town. This isn't an area of quality parks, be we've stayed here many times and always been well pleased. Reasonable at $25/night (with discounts).  Fort Stockton RV Park

Fort Sam Houston Travel Park, San Antonio, TX

Stay Date:  March 2012

Our Rating:  GOOD – 8

Fort Sam Travel CampGetting to the park is an exercise in pothole and maintenance cone avoidance, but once on the post the roads, while bumpy, are fairly well maintained. The park itself is extremely well maintained; level concrete pull-through sites and large patio with table and grill, convenient hookups, and lots of room. Propane is availableFort Sam Travel Camp2 M-F and there are a few RV items in the store. A very large commissary and PX are within a 20-minute drive through the post.  There is no park Wi-Fi or cable, but you're in the middle of a metropolitan area so there is plenty of broadcast TV, and our Verizon data card was on 4G during our stay. If you have mail forwarded, be prepared to navigate a maze of warehouses and loading docks to find the mail room - we opted for the main post office instead. It's one of the best parks in the military, but what makes it less desirable for us is the the train noise. Be prepared for all day, all night trains loudly sounding their horns as they pass within 1/2 mile of the park.  Very reasonable at $17/night.  Fort Sam Houston Travel Park
